Associate / Legal Director - Pensions

Job Introduction

TLT’s pensions team has a broad portfolio of clients including FTSE companies, multinationals, UK corporates and trustees. The team advises on all aspects of pension schemes, particularly advisory, buy-ins and buy-outs with a focus on multi national clients, central government public sector and SIPP and SSAS.

Formed in 2001 the TLT national Pensions Team is recognised in Tier 1 Legal 500 SW and Tier 3 in Manchester. Five of the team members are recognised in Chambers and Partners.

The team is led by Sasha Butterworth, who according to Legal 500:

'… never fails, she is always on her game and able to be constructive and to the point on all pension issues. A pleasure to deal with. Available to discuss issues and hits deadlines with ease.”

The team is described in Chambers UK by an impressed source as “They are the best pension lawyers I have ever dealt with: they are responsive and practical

Our key clients include Fujitsu Trustee, Travelers, the Metropolitan Police Agency, Crown Commercial Services, Arkema Bostik Trustee and Biffa.

Through our national service lines you will work with notable clients and become a sector specialist. You will receive bespoke training throughout your career ensuring you have the technical and commercial skills to build an effective and successful practice.

Role Responsibility

You will operate as an Associate / Legal Director within the Pensions team, in either Bristol or Manchester, where you will be expected to deliver the following:

  • Work directly with trustees, employers and providers, both nationally and internationally to give pensions advice and establish your own relationship with the clients. A key part of the role will be working together with the team to develop new clients and referrers, to grow the team further
  • 90% of the work is stand-alone pensions advice and 10% is working in partnership with other TLT national teams including litigation, financial services regulatory, corporate, employment, commercial, insolvency and social housing

The Ideal Candidate

  • Strong expertise in Pensions with at least 3 years PQE
  • Experience working with public sector clients or SIPP and SSAS providers would be desirable though not essential
  • Ability to work easily within a team working environment
  • Driven by a challenging and varied role
