Employment Solicitor / Associate

Job Introduction

We are recruiting for an Employment Solicitor to join our Team in London.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a solicitor from 2-6 years PQE to work in a team with real strength in depth.  We have 25 specialist employment solicitors, including seven partners, four of whom are ranked in Chambers. 

We combine cutting edge/strategic expertise on complex advisory work (particularly trade union and industrial relations, TUPE, large scale re-organisations, whistle blowing and restrictive covenants), with cost effective support on "business as usual" issues. We can also draw on the expertise of our established pensions and share schemes teams. London is targeted as a key area of growth for the firm.

Through our national service lines you will work with notable clients and become a sector specialist. You will receive bespoke training throughout your career ensuring you have the technical and commercial skills to build an effective and successful practice.

Role Responsibility

Once you are in the role of Associate you will work on a high quality but varied caseload, working closely with the partners and other team members.  The work is split as follows (it is recognised candidates may not have experience in each of the areas):

  • employment tribunal claims (almost exclusively acting for respondents) including some complex and high profile matters regularly working with leading barristers
  • helping employers manage issues in the workplace such as disciplinaries, grievances, restructuring and redundancies
  • providing employment law support in corporate transactions and outsourcing contracts,
  • post termination restriction matters
  • appointments and terminations
  • advice on industrial relations and collective issues
  • drafting of contracts of employment, consultancy agreements, staff handbooks, settlement agreements and other employment related documentation
  • business development including training and seminars

The Ideal Candidate

  • enjoy working in a team-based environment but also be content in a small local team
  • have strong client handling skills and be able to instil confidence in clients, including experienced in-house employment solicitors, and to work with leading counsel
  • have an enthusiasm for employment law and the ability to give advice in a commercial context
  • have project management skills
  • have a strong academic and professional background, ideally with training / experience at a Top 50 or city law firm
  • be good on detail and on managing, mastering and assimilating wide ranging and complex facts
  • ideally have experience of advising large private sector employers.
