Senior Associate - Employment

Job Introduction

TLT's employment team is very much a national practice, with team members based in Bristol, Manchester, Belfast, Glasgow and London.

We are one of very few firms offering resident employment expertise in England, Scotland and Northern Ireland.

The Employment team enjoys an excellent reputation and is ranked as a National Leader (Chambers 2021) is growing quickly.

The team has real strength in depth.  Of the eight Partners across the UK, four are already ranked in Chambers.  In total we have 31 solicitors across the UK including 15 in Bristol.

We combine cutting edge/strategic expertise on complex advisory work (particularly trade union and industrial relations, TUPE, large scale re-organisations, whistle blowing and restrictive covenants), with efficient support on "business as usual" issues and claims.

We can also draw on the expertise of our established pensions and share schemes teams.

Many of our clients are well known names such as Sainsbury's, Savills plc, BT plc, Biffa plc, The Co-operative Bank, and Deloitte.

In return we will invest in you. We want you to be successful. You will manage your own caseloads ensuring your experience is varied and broad. Through our national service lines you will work with notable clients and become a sector specialist. You will receive bespoke training throughout your career ensuring you have the technical and commercial skills to build an effective and successful practice.




Role Responsibility

You will have your own high quality and varied caseload, working closely with the Partners and other team members.  Once you are in the role, you will deliver the following:

  • Helping employers manage issues in the workplace such as disciplinaries, grievances, restructuring and redundancies
  • Employment tribunal claims (predominantly acting for Respondents)
  • Providing employment law support in corporate deals and outsourcing contracts, contract drafting and client training
  • Enforcement of post termination restrictive covenants
  • Business development including training and seminars.

The Ideal Candidate

Our employees are talented people, distinguished by technical excellence, with a willingness to embrace team working and a passion for client service. You will be able to demonstrate a similar supportive, flexible and driven ethos and will have accumulated the following experience and skills:

  • 5+ years PQE, where you have gained employment law knowledge
  • Enjoy working in a team-based environment
  • Have strong client handling skills and be able to instil client confidence 
  • Have an enthusiasm for employment law, with the ability to give advice in a commercial context
  • Have a good academic background
  • Have relevant experience of advising large (1000 employees plus) private and private sector employers

Package Description
