Knowledge Lawyer

Job Introduction

We are seeking a Knowledge Lawyer to support our growing Corporate team with its core practice development and professional support activities.  The role will report in to the team’s existing Senior Knowledge Lawyer and so will be fully supported. 

TLT’ s Corporate team is a national team, comprising 12 partners across four offices supported by 30 fee earners at various levels.  The team is operated as a single unit across our four offices, working to one plan for growth and development of the commercial practice. 

Our Corporate lawyers work across a range of industry sectors and transactions, including corporate acquisitions and disposals, management buy-outs/ins and private equity and venture capital investments.  They act for an impressive list of UK and international clients, from family owned businesses and major FTSE listed PLC’s through to venture capitalists, private equity houses, banks and financial institutions.

We are a close knit friendly team looking for a Knowledge Lawyer who can be flexible, work well in a team, generate ideas, be self-sufficient and proactive, and actively project manage their own deliverables.




Role Responsibility

The role is a full or part time, permanent contract based at the office of your choice, with provision for home working and occasional travel to support the Corporate team in our offices in Bristol, Manchester and London.  We are flexible on the hours and days you would like to work.  The role will be based upon a minimum of 21 hours per week.

The main purpose of this role is to:

  • Maintain the provision of professional support services across the Corporate team to a high standard, including monitoring current market and technical developments and helping internal and external clients to manage the resulting changes
  • Support the strategic development and growth of the Corporate team's business, through the provision of training, current awareness information and other knowledge services to lawyers and clients, ensuring they are consistently implemented across the national team
  • Work with lawyers and client teams to identify new approaches to increase efficiency and reduce cost pressures in the face of changing market trends.

The role involves, but is not limited to:

  • Working proactively to raise the profile of the group by co-ordinating, preparing and delivering articles, updates, corporate deal analysis, training and products for clients
  • Undertaking complex legal research to provide support on client matters and business development activities
  • Dealing with ad hoc questions (usually technical) from all members of the Corporate team and, from time to time, other parts of the firm
  • Assisting in the preparation of tenders with Business Development to enable the team to exploit business opportunities
  • Developing, managing and delivering the team's knowledge training programme
  • Developing know how resources and other resources to support the practice of the Corporate team
  • Developing procedures, play books and check sheets for key areas of the team’s practice
  • Keeping up to date with legal, commercial and industry developments and disseminating these to our lawyers and clients proactively
  • Drafting, maintaining and updating the team's precedents and processes to ensure they represent best practice
  • Working with other Knowledge Lawyers and the Knowledge Management (KM) Team to support and promote the knowledge management function
  • Working with TLT’s Future Law team and other centres of excellence within the firm to identify innovations that would support and improve the Corporate team’s processes and procedures
  • Leading and delivering firm wide KM projects as required in line with the firm's knowledge strategy.

The Ideal Candidate

  • English qualified lawyer, ideally with prior Knowledge Lawyer (Professional Support Lawyer) experience but fee earners with at least 5 years' experience looking to make the transition into a support role will also be considered
  • High level of competence in English company law and M&A, and ideally also private equity and/or equity capital market transactions
  • Strong legal drafting skills and attention to detail
  • Ability to digest, analyse and succinctly communicate large amounts of legal and industry information to both internal and external clients
  • Ability to work effectively independently but also be a good team worker
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (including strong presentation skills)
  • Self-motivated with a strong client focused approach and enthusiasm for business development
  • Ability to manage demanding workloads within strict deadlines, with strong project management and organisational skills
  • Strong interest in legal technology
